How to see your hours played on PS5 and PS4

PlayStation does record how long you play each game. It just keeps the number a few menus deep. Here is where to find it on a PS5, what you can do with only a PS4, why some games show nothing, and which setting decides whether anyone else can see it.

On a PS5

  1. On the home screen, select your profile picture in the top right.
  2. Choose Profile.
  3. Open the Games tab.

Every game in that list shows when you last played it, how long you have played it and your trophy progress. PS4 games you played on the same account are in the same list, including the ones from before you had a PS5.

A friend's playtime

  1. Press the PS button and choose Game Base.
  2. Switch to the Friends tab with L1 or R1 and select View All Friends.
  3. Pick your friend and open the Games tab on their page.

You only see their hours if their gaming history is visible to you: their setting for who can see their gaming history has to be Friends Only, Friends of Friends or Anyone.

With only a PS4

The PS4 itself has no menu with hours per game. The PlayStation App on your phone shows the time for a few recently played games, but not a full list. The playtime is still recorded on your account, though, so a site that reads your PSN profile can show it per game, as long as your gaming history is visible.

Once a year: PlayStation Wrap-Up

Each winter Sony publishes PlayStation Wrap-Up, a personal look back with your total hours and most played games of that year. It covers one calendar year only, so it is not a lifetime total.

Why some games show no time

  • PS3 and PS Vita games have trophies but no recorded playtime.
  • Older PS4 records are less reliable than PS5 ones. Some PS4 games show less time than you remember.

Let a stats site read it

Whether others can see your games and playtime depends on your PSN privacy settings. For a site like this one to read them, your gaming history has to be visible:

  • PS5: Settings, Users and Accounts, Privacy, View and Customize Your Privacy Settings. Under Your Activity, set who can see your gaming history to Anyone, and check that the games you want are not under Hide Your Games from Other Players.
  • PS4: Settings, Account Management, Privacy Settings, then Gaming | Media, and set Games to Anyone.
  • Browser: Account Management on playstation.com, Privacy settings, Gaming | Media, Edit, then set Games to Anyone.

Sony describes these settings on its PSN privacy settings page. The trophy side is covered in PlayStation trophies explained.

Doing it here

Link your PlayStation account with your online ID: the name on your profile, not your email address. No password is involved. Your card then shows the hours PlayStation publishes per game next to your trophies. When a game has no recorded time, the hours stay empty instead of showing a guess.
